How Often Should You Post On Social Media To See Results?

Do you really need to post constantly on social media to see results? The simple answer is no. This is a very common marketing myth!

In fact, on Instagram, so many believe that you need to post content multiple times a day to gain the most traction.

But actually, quality over quantity is the most important thing on social media. You can post less frequently and still be a highly engaging brand where people anticipate and look forward to interacting with your content.

What’s the social media sweet spot of posting?

Posting multiple times per day bombards people and doesn’t give them a chance to take your content in, so as a general rule, it’s best not to post more than once per day.

But there’s also no obligation to post once per day if your content loses its quality. Yes, consistency is key, but what does consistency look like for you?

The sweet spot for the best posting frequency per week is what works for you and your brand, whether that’s once per day, twice per week or anywhere in between.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, says that two Feed posts per week and two Story posts per day can be ideal for most business users.

Posting twice per week on the main Instagram feed with two high-quality posts that provide tons of value for your followers could give you the same or better results as if you posted every single day with posts that lack quality.

What makes high-quality Instagram content?

Well, firstly, having an action plan and strategy in place for planning, creating and scheduling your content is super important. When brands post in a haphazard fashion with zero clarity, as well as with minimal to no investment in their marketing, results just don’t happen.

If the algorithm picks up that your content is resonating with your audience, your posts get put in a better position and new audiences are more able to easily find them.

But your content can only start resonating with your audience if you fully understand who your audience are, as well as your brand messaging, personality, tone and vision!

When you know this like the back of your hand, you’ll understand the who, what and why of your Instagram, and be able to hone in on the most powerful content that connects with your audience.

Putting a social media plan into action

Once you’ve established how often you’re going to post per week and the type of content that will connect with your audience, you can start creating content in the most time-efficient, productive way by using the productivity technique, batching.

Block out periods of time in your calendar where you’ll deal with an aspect of your content, like writing a week’s worth of content in an hour, and then assigning time to make the accompanying creatives in another time block.

When creating your content, remember that the most successful Instagram accounts have a strong aesthetic with a consistent look and feel across photos.

And then, once you’ve created all your high-quality content, you can start scheduling so your posts go live automatically, using tools like ContentCal or Hootsuite.

This is a lot less stressful than using the haphazard method with a lack of clarity, when you’re thinking up last-minute posts every day with no idea if they will connect with your audience and perform.
